August 26, 2014

Construction attorney & licensed architect Gary L. Cole AIA, Esq., already a construction arbitrator and mediator for the American Arbitration Association (“AAA”), has joined the AAA’s panel of neutrals for Large Complex Commercial disputes.

Mr. Cole has served as an arbitrator in many AAA Fast Track and Regular Track disputes, and has served as a mediator in nearly fifty matters.  As a member of the AAA’s Large Complex Commercial panel of neutrals, he is eligible to serve as arbitrator or mediator singly or as part of a tribunal for complex construction, real estate and general contract disputes where claims exceed $1 million.

He also offers combined Mediation/Arbitration (“Med/Arb”) dispute resolution services, whereby parties first attempt to settle their disputes through mediation, and, if unsuccessful, convert the proceedings the same day to arbitration for the issuance of a binding award.

Combined Med/Arb proceedings have the potential to both increase the speed and reduce the cost of the dispute resolution process.

As an arbitrator and mediator, Mr. Cole combines his long experience and technical background as a licensed architect, construction contractor and former Visiting Associate Professor of Architecture at the University of Illinois, with his sixteen years of experience as a construction attorney to arrive at insightful and well-reasoned alternative dispute resolutions.  He also serves as an expert witness and consulting counsel in construction, ADA and historic preservation disputes litigation.
