Attorney and architect Gary L. Cole AIA, Esq. is a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving four years before receiving his Honorable Discharge as an E-4 Sergeant.
He was an aircraft avionics technician who completed his Basic Training at Lackland AFB, Texas, and his Technical Training at Keesler AFB, Mississippi, where he was a Student Leader and Honor Graduate.
He was permanently stationed at Shaw AFB, South Carolina, and was assigned to the 363 Aircraft Generation Squardon and the 4507th Consolidated Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, both a part of Tactical Air Command (TAC). There he provided avionics technical support for various aircraft including the reconnaissance RF-4C Phantom II; the Forward Air Controller O-2A Skymaster; and, the Sikorsky CH-3E rescue helicopter. He participated twice in the advanced aerial combat training exercise “Red Flag” at Nellis AFB, Nevada. He was awarded the Expert ribbon for marksmanship with the M-16 semi-automatic rifle and also received ribbons for longevity and good conduct. While stationed at Shaw AFB he continued his formal education by taking mathematics courses at the University of South Carolina.
Mr. Cole descends from a long line of military veterans. Like his father before him, he served in the U.S. Air Force during the U.S. – Soviet Cold War. His great-uncle served in the U.S. Army during World War II and participated in the invasion of Normandy; his grandfather served in the U.S. Army during World War I and was wounded in France, later receiving the Purple Heart; his several times great-grandfather fought with the Union Army during the Civil War, while an earlier great-grandfather fought with the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War. He is a direct descendant of Captain Arthur Fenner (1619-1703) who immigrated to America from England in 1649, after serving as a Lieutenant with Oliver Cromwell’s horse troops.
Gary L. Cole AIA, Esq. is proud of his military service, but is even more so of all veterans who have served in the defense of the United States of America at any time in its great history.
